As friends and family members, you can be of great support to someone living with a mental health condition or experiencing emotional distress. Sometimes it can be hard to know what to say, do or how to act during a difficult time and how to be most supportive to a friend or family member in need.

This group includes tips on supporting friends and family members living with a mental health conditions so you know how to be there for the ones you love and feel good about doing it. Remember, it's always important to look out for yourself and take care of your own needs too, so this section also includes guidance on doing just that as well. Additionally, you will find information on the unique needs of young adults who are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender or questioning having the support of friends is particularily crucial to their mental health.
